Welcome to the Milford School District, a District that consistently strives for excellence in academics for each and every student from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. This commitment is reflected in our mission statement:

“The mission of Milford School District is to ensure that all students receive a comprehensive, personalized and quality education in a safe, supportive learning environment where students can gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that will enable each of them to achieve success in their life pursuits.”

Sharon Kanter (Superintendent)Milford School District is located in the geographic center of the state of Delaware and has the Delaware Bay as its eastern boundary. The School District encompasses 166 square miles of flatland, with numerous freshwater lakes dotting the area. Most of the land is utilized in various agribusiness enterprises. Total population for Milford School District is approximately 20,000 with a student population of approximately 4,200 for grades K-12.

Our District boasts exemplary performance on the Delaware State Testing Program for the past ten years. At Morris Early Childhood Center, teachers are focused on laying the strong foundation for students in pre-kindergarten to first grade. When they go on to either Ross or Benjamin Banneker Elementary Schools, students excel on the Delaware State Testing program as both schools have earned Superior status on the state testing programs. In addition, Ross Elementary School has been selected as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and Banneker Elementary School was recognized as a National Distinguished Title One School. Milford Middle School was awarded the Superstars in Education award this past school year as well as being nominated for a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Milford High School consistently produces graduates who go on to post-secondary educational settings in either a two- or four-year college. Additionally, Milford High School was ranked as the sixth best high school in the state of Delaware by Delaware Today Magazine. Not only do Milford students shine in the classroom, they are exemplary in athletics as Milford students won five state championships in football, wrestling, boys’ track and field, softball and cheerleading for the 2008-2009 school year. As a result of these and many other accomplishments, Standard & Poor’s has named Milford School District an Outperforming School District for 2007 and 2008.

Administrators, teachers, staff and all support personnel continually strive to ensure a quality instructional program led by research-based practices and innovative programming. Staff members maintain high expectations for their performance as well as for the quality of student work. Milford School District maintains a teaching staff that is highly qualified as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act. Milford School District Board of Education provides leadership and advocacy for policies supporting high quality education and communicates high expectations through its unwavering support.

Our District’s technology program is updated frequently to meet the needs and the ever changing challenges of our fastpaced, technological global society. Milford classrooms are well equipped with state of the art technology, smart boards, computers, other projection devices, and the latest in educational software. Our motto, “Schools for the 21st Century", has special meaning as we provide cutting edge technology to our students and staff.

As a result of increasing student enrollment and to provide the most appropriate educational setting for our learners, the District is growing as a new Central Academy will open in September 2010 with eighth and ninth grade students. This academy will be the only school in Delaware that is built environmentally sound with the “greenest” technology, state of the art technology classrooms, and curricula that integrate the technology to its full advantage.

Come visit us and see why we are still the “best kept secret in Delaware".
